We are eagerly looking forward to our 11th Annual Tech Night.  This district-wide event is for all students K-12.  Follow this link for more information about the event and to submit an application.

New Canaan Public School’s 11th Annual Tech Night is once again bringing together students and technology! We invite all students to take part in this special event on Wednesday, April 5th from 6:30-8:00pm at New Canaan High School.

What is Tech Night?  It is a fantastic opportunity for students of all ages to share investigations, creations and innovations related to technology with members of the New Canaan Community.  We know that students in our schools are passionate about a variety of things -including technology.  They often pursue these interests in their own time, outside of the school day.  Tech Night is an opportunity for students from grades K-12 to demonstrate projects and scientific investigations that they have created inside and outside of the classroom that show exceptional uses of technology.

Keep in mind, technology is “the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes”, so presentations do not have to use computers or electricity.  In the past, we have had students share discoveries in areas ranging from water filtration systems to woodturning, from solar chargers to digital book reviews!

To take part in this exciting event, we ask students to submit an application that outlines his or her idea for a project (parents can assist younger students with this), describing its use of technology and supplying reasons for sharing this idea. A committee of faculty review each application and pair that student with a coach to provide them support, as well as the opportunity to teach and inspire with their ideas and creations.

Sharing these innovations is an important part of the event as well.  Students typically develop a brief (5-7 min) presentation to highlight their work, incorporate technology, and describe the process they went through to create the product.  Teacher-coaches play will provide participants with support in this area as well.

You can find more information about Tech Night, along with the online application at this link: NCPS Tech Night 2017.  We hope you will join us on April 5th!

p.s. Please note, there is NO SNOW DATE planned for this event.
