About Our Superintendent

dr. Bryan Luizzi

Dr. Bryan Luizzi .has spent over 28 years as an educator, beginning his career at Newtown High School as an English Teacher. He has served as a Manager of Technology Operations for the Newtown Public Schools, Dean of Students in Litchfield, Assistant Principal at the Middle School and High School in Brookfield, and as Brookfield High School’s Principal starting in 2006. 

In 2011, Dr. Luizzi joined the New Canaan Public Schools as Principal of New Canaan High School, where he served for three years before being appointed as the District's Superintendent in 2014.

As New Canaan Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Luizzi has overseen the implementation of programs designed to benefit students at all grade levels, such as the district's implementation of the RULER Approach for Emotional Intelligence, the conceptualization, development, and implementation of the high school's alternative learning program, known as the Downtown Campus, the district's elementary Literacy Academy, unveiled in 2022, which aims to deliver intensive, scientifically-based reading instruction to students struggling with learning to read, and the renovation of the NCHS planetarium into The Dome, an immersive learning theater designed to serve all grades K-12.

In addition to his program work, Dr. Luizzi has also continued to keep the district at the height of innovation, overseeing building updates to each of the district’s schools, including three outdoor learning centers at East and West Elementary schools and Saxe Middle School, Saxe's Design Lab, a center of innovation for the middle school's STEM-related classes, and the high school's Makerspace and Virtual Reality Lab, all of which are forward-thinking spaces that allow students to create, problem solve and learn utilizing today's modern technology.

Dr. Luizzi earned his bachelor's degree in English Education from Clemson University, his master's degree in Educational Technology from Western Connecticut State, his advanced degree in Educational Administration from Sacred Heart University, and his Doctor of Education degree from the Teachers College at Columbia University. He lives with his wife and two daughters, where he enjoys reading and spending time with his family.

Dr. Luizzi frequently shares his belief that our work in schools is the most important work on the planet; and, together, all of us in the NCPS strive every day to prove him right.
